The Cure

by Sara Darroch

Unlike the other books we have listed, The Cure does not provide information on nutrition, though it still played a role in one person’s journey of healing and discovery.

The Cure is a fantasy novel written by Sara of the Eternity: Health for Life team. Sara’s father encouraged her to write a book about her experiences when her brother was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. The entire experience – everything that happened leading up to that day, the day her brother fell into a diabetic coma, and afterwards, when their entire life changed in order to manage the condition – left a strong impression.

Nothing was the same as it had been. It left fear, uncertainty, and yet a glimmer of hope. What she thought she knew and believed had been put to the test. But, questioning what she knew led her to find better answers, based on more accurate information. With that she was able to build a stronger foundation.

The intricate, interconnected nature of the human body as it continually adapts to its changing needs and the world around it means that we must keep searching and learning. It is a lifelong quest.

Sara decided to write a book, but would only do it if it could be turned into a fantasy, her favourite genre. The story began as a more realistic retelling with only some fantasy elements added. As it developed, it became something much more. It no longer contains any resemblance to her life, but the hopes and questions in which the story was built on remain as underlying themes. She was able to put much of her emotions of her experiences at the time into the work. It provided an avenue of expression and release.

The novel can be purchased in digital and physical format on Amazon.ca, Amazon.com, as well as other Amazon regions.

The Story:

In a world called Synn, magic is kept under tight control and a disease, known only as the Curse, threatens the lives of the people.

Azaria, a seventeen year old healer, has spent her life working at an apothecary in the city of Tenera, quietly toiling away in hopes of someday being able to help her sick brother. An opportunity is granted to her when she is discovered to possess magic. She is forced to flee from her home, and the elven King who wants to use and contain her abilities for his own sinister reasons, but not before she hears rumors of a cure in a distant land. Since she cannot return home, her only option is to go forward, and find this cure.

Finding the cure proves much harder than she ever imagined as she is sought after not only by the King, but by an embittered dark elf empress who is using questionable means to achieve order in the chaotic world. Caught in the midst of a play of power, danger, and revenge between nobility, Azaria must gain the courage to find her own purpose and create her own destiny.

She must learn to harness a great power of her own and make a choice that could change the world.
